Pakistan’s new gas prices turned into a full blown confusion storm after OGRA’s mixed and contradictory signals sent consumers and industries scrambling for clarity. What started as a simple update quickly turned into a debate about what the actual gas tariff really is and whether OGRA even approved any changes.
Gas Price Update Sparks Confusion Nationwide
Gas prices in Pakistan shifted again this week, and the updates have been anything but straightforward. At first, OGRA stated that average gas prices for the current financial year would increase by up to 7.14%.
According to those numbers:
-
Sui Northern: Rs 1,852.80 per MMBTU
-
Sui Southern: Rs 1,777.02 per MMBTU
But just as these figures spread, OGRA released a surprising clarification.

OGRA Says “No Tariff Change Approved” Public Left Wondering
Shortly after reports of the new gas prices emerged, OGRA’s spokesperson announced that the market had “misunderstood” the situation. He insisted that OGRA had not approved any increase and that the previous rates were still in place.
This completely contradicted the circulated higher figures and sparked even more confusion.
Adding to the drama, OGRA had earlier presented a totally different stance, saying the authority had actually proposed a 3% reduction for Sui Northern and an 8% reduction for Sui Southern.
Those proposed rates were:
-
Sui Northern: Rs 1,804.08 per MMBTU
-
Sui Southern: Rs 1,549.41 per MMBTU
These numbers hinted at a potential decrease long before the “increase” stories began circulating.
Final Rates Resurface And They’re Higher Again
By the end of the day, new updates confirmed that the higher rates were back in play, showing:
-
Sui Northern: Rs 1,852.80 per MMBTU
-
Sui Southern: Rs 1,777.02 per MMBTU
With these rapid shifts, Pakistanis are still unsure about the final approved gas price for the year, as OGRA’s statements continue to conflict with circulating tariff figures.
